I study the physics of flow and transport in living and engineered systems. These problems range from the clearance of waste in the brain and the fluid mechanics behind vision loss in astronauts, to microbial transport in the gut and pattern formation in fluids. To study them, I combine theory, numerical simulation, and experiments. My work connects classical thermal-fluid science with biology and medicine, and is supported by NASA, NSF, and NIH.
